Thames Valley area Police and Crime Commissioner election

Following the election on Thursday 6 May 2021, Matthew Barber (Conservative) has been elected as Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley Area.

Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) are elected representatives who oversee how crime is tackled in a police force area. Their aim is to cut crime and to ensure the police force is effective. They are elected for a four year term.

The Police Crime and Commissioner Election uses the Supplementary Vote system, which gives voters a first and second choice.

If no candidate gets more than 50 per cent of the first-choice votes, all except the top two candidates are eliminated. If an individual’s first-choice candidate is eliminated, and their second choice is for one of the top two, their second choice is counted.
