Get inspired at the ‘Special Foodie Event’ – find out how you can turn leftovers into delicious meals

Are you looking for inspiration, ideas and recipes to turn leftover fresh ingredients into a delicious meal?  Then make sure you come to Cornerstone in Didcot on Friday 30 August for the ‘Special Foodie Event’.

Between 10am and 3pm, you will be able to sample delicious fresh cooked food, enjoy a pedal-powered smoothie, find how out how to reduce your food waste and much more.

Pudding Pie Cookery School will be running demonstrations throughout the day using surplus food that would otherwise have gone to waste. Pick up advice, recipes and practical tips on using up different food items and reducing how much is wasted at home.

Come and speak to the team from SOFEA to learn how you can access low-cost food in Didcot at their community larder.

Take part in activities with Good Food Oxfordshire and get cooking toolkits, resources and recipes, tips on growing at home and for reducing food waste and meal planning.

Work up a sweat making smoothies with a pedal powered smoothie maker borrowed from SHARE Oxford’s Library of Things.

Staff from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils and Oxfordshire County Council will also be on hand to answer your questions about food waste, recycling, reducing waste and how to reuse items you would normally throw away!

Cllr Mark Coleman, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Waste at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Using your leftovers, planning your meals and cutting your food waste can really help to save you a lot of money.  If you want to find out how, don’t miss the Special Foodie Event!”

Cllr Georgina Heritage, Cabinet Member for Communities at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “The Special Foodie Event is a great chance to find out how you can use leftover food to make new meals rather than throwing them away.  You’ll also be able to pick up some delicious samples and learn more about cutting your food waste.  So, make sure you come along to Cornerstone on 30 August!”
