How to report fly-tipping, littering and dumped waste

To report any fly-tipping please complete the fly-tipping form.  Alternatively, you can speak to our contractor, Biffa, via the contact details below.

If you come across some fly-tipping, do not remove anything from the site as we need it for evidence in our investigation.

If you have witnessed someone dumping rubbish, please tell us:

  • date and time of the event
  • its location
  • type and quantity of waste dumped
  • description of the person(s) carrying out the fly-tipping
  • vehicle description and registration
  • any company details (i.e. name on the side of a company van or
    vehicle)
  • any other information felt to be helpful for the council’s
    investigation

If you find dumped rubbish, please tell us:

  • its location
  • type and quantity of waste dumped
  • when you first noticed it

What happens next?

After we we’ve received a report of fly-tipping and it is on public land, we open an investigation and arrange to remove the waste.

If waste has been dumped on private land we can investigate but it is the responsibility of the landowner to remove it.

If someone is caught fly-tipping they could be fined £400.  From 1 April 2025, this figure will rise to £1,000.

Anyone convicted in court for a large-scale fly-tip could receive an unlimited fine or sentenced to up to 12 months in prison.
