Improvement work from 11 November
We have plans to carry out improvements at Cattle Market car park in Abingdon.
Car park closure
The Cattle Market car park will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from 11 November to allow for a preliminary archaeological survey by ADAS as part of preparation work required ahead of any improvement work.
The car park will be temporarily closed until the further planned improvements work are completed. This is likely to be for around 20 weeks. Signage has been onsite for several weeks in advance of this work taking place.
We apologise for any inconvenience during the temporary closure. Those wishing to park in the town are advised to use alternative car parks at the Civic cark park (OX14 3JH), Abbey Close car park (OX14 3JE), Rye Farm car park (OX14 3NN) or the Charter multi-story car park (OX14 3LH). What improvements are we making?
The improvements we have planned will make the car park easier to use. This includes improving the layout, resurfacing to remove potholes and lighting to help to make the car park safer for all users. We will also look to install a rain garden to help manage rainwater and prevent overwhelming the drains during times of heavy rain.
A rain garden collects water that runs off a car park surface rather than allowing it to pool and overwhelm the drains. The plants and soil then filter the rain resulting in cleaner water going into the water table below. The rain garden will also improve the biodiversity at the car park.
The project is being delivered by Vale of White Horse District Council in partnership with Thames Water.
