Young winners of the council’s waste trails presented with a colourful prize

Students at Millbrook School in Grove have a new place to rest in the playground after the school was presented with a multi-coloured recycled plastic bench for their playground by Councillor Mark Coleman, Vale of White Horse District Council Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Waste.

The top prize was given as part of the council’s successful Litter Bug Detectives Trail where the council’s waste team ran children’s activity trails during the school summer holidays.

The activities were aimed at primary school children and were produced to promote waste reduction messages and explain the damage litter does to the environment.

The winner, Emilia, completed the trail with her older sisters Niamh and Georgia and her school was entered into the draw for the prize. As top prize winner, she also won vouchers for herself.

Cllr Mark Coleman said “This has been a great success with residents in the past and seemed to be just as popular this year, offering an activity that is free, outdoors and educational for young children during the summer.

“It also offers the council a great opportunity to talk about waste and litter and how we all need to reduce both.”

Notes to editors

The trails were created by South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Council’s waste team. There were 19 schools entered in the draw in total.

The trails were at sites in Abingdon, Didcot, North Hinksey, Thame, Wallingford and Wantage.
